Spike jonze skateboard12/22/2023 ![]() ![]() The few motion graphics in that video motivated me to work towards buying the Adobe Production Suite, which led me to the Media Arts degree that I am pursuing. there seems no easy explanation for Spike Jonze’s speedy rise, as it is usually told, from BMX kid to skateboard photographer to innovative music videographer (the Beastie Boys’ Sabotage. Skateboard videos, music videos, short films, and features are the exact things I’ve always wanted to do ever since I saw Yeah Right! in 2004. I hope I get the chance to do some of the things he does as a career. Even though his feature film track record isn’t the longest, each film gets my imagination flowing. He helped get Jackass on MTV, one of the funniest shows with a super simple idea. The exhibition includes never been seen photography from the archive of Oscar-winning director Spike Jonze, and Glen E. Spike’s short films, TV shows, and films are always entertaining to me. His library of work is full of quality stuff. The video for California by Wax is just a man running on fire, genious! His videos are so much more of an art form than the plain, green screen, lip syncing videos that are way too common today. The ideas he comes up with are always original and fun to watch. Spike’s directed videos for Weezer, The Beastie Boys, Fatboy Slim, Kanye West, and Biggie Smalls, just to name a few. When I look at all the music videos that he’s done, I have most of those artists on my iPod. The work of Spike Jonze is all over the map, with the unifying element being an abiding interest in counterculture, and a less than traditional way of looking at the world. Pharcyde’s – Drop hurts my brain thinking about how complex that process must have been. Since the coming of Youtube, I’ve been able to go back and see his past music videos. He is a skateboarder turned big-time director, which is why he has always inspired me. Jason Lee (from My Name Is Earl) actually skated in that video. After his parents divorced, Jonze spent most of his formative years with his mother in Maryland, where he cultivated interests in skateboarding, freestyle biking, and photography. He was just a kid, filming his friends skating, and ended up with one of the biggest pieces of skate history. Nicknamed 'Spike' at a young age - he was fond of buzz haircuts - he would adopt the 'Jonze' later in life as an homage to the comic bandleader of the 1940s. ![]() I found out he made arguably, the most influential skateboard video of all time back in 1991, called Video Days. I was curious to know more about him because of how mind blowing the video was. The first time I saw the name Spike Jonze, was in the credits of the skateboard video Yeah Right! He was the man behind all of the cinematic skits throughout the film. ![]()
