Song sounds like uprising muse12/20/2023 And in 12/8 you can still write triplets. But you could also do 1/3 of a eighth note. Its just really hard to describe.Ī triplet beat is just anything written in triplets. I wish i could make this make sense better. But we dont have a name for one third of a quarter note so we use triplets. And if you add a triplet to a dotted quarter you get three eighth notes. But in 12/8 if you write 4 quarter notes in 12/8, you are missing 4 whole eighth notes. So writing a triplet would just be confusing. One third of a half note is a quarter note. If i told you to split a dotted half note in triplets you would just be writing quarter notes. Theres multiple ways to write it but the most common is in 4/4, if you see 2 eighth notes and the music tells you its swung, instead of playing 2 eighth notes, you play a dotted eighth note and then a 16th note. When something is swung think of jazz music. There are other types of “uplets” too a quadruplet could be 4 eighth notes in one quarter notes time. So three eighth notes in one quarter note. No a triplet is a rhythm where three notes are played in the time of one note. Just trying to help a fellow music lover by sharing my knowledge. And the fact that Matt is an absolute genius with his writing is one of the biggest reasons I love Muse. Without the sheet music like i had for those, they can get confusing because it is probably intend to sound like 6/4 but is easier read in 3/4 and therefore was written in 3/4. Finally there was a song or two that you guessed 6/4 and it was 3/4. Animals is probably their most odd time signature, the only other song i can remember with that time signature is a jazz piece called Take Five. And 12/8 is eighth notes with the accents typically occurring on 1,4,7, and 10 (sounds like triplets in 4/4). 6/8 is just 6 eighth notes with accents typically on 1 and 4 (sounds like triplets in 2/4). Tempos like 6/8 and 12/8 may sound and look like triplets but they aren’t. Also, I am not sure what you mean by something being written in ‘triplets’. 6/4 you will hear 6 very distinct beats while in 6/8 you will likely only hear two (the accents in feeling good are a great example of the ‘feel’ of 6/8. I notice you have 6/4 and 6/8 confused on most of this. Save me goes between 6/8 and 3/4 a few times 2 by Frederik Chopin) 12/8Įxogenisis Symphony Part 2 Intro 3/4, chorus 2/2, outro 3/4 and 4/4 Hoodoo Intro 3/4 and 4/4, verse 1 6/8, chorus 3/4, verse 2 6/8, outro 3/4Ĭollateral Damage (AKA Nocturnes, Opus 9 No. Micro cuts is in 4/4, but at the end of the chord progression goes to 5/4 and also occasionally changes to 3/4Īssassin (you have this one right) 4/4 with 2 bars of 2/4 I am a music major in college, i think you have a few general misunderstanding of time signatures. I might have missed some though, please add if I did! I find that all of these songs are really interesting particularly Overdue just sounds peculiar (but I love it), Animals has a great identity brought by the 5/4 time, Unnatural Selection's bridge has such a contrast between the rest of the song because it has a different rhythm (and tempo too), Spiral Static is in general a unique and non-typical song. Psycho has a triplet beat EDIT: Apparently this is also swung like Uprising Unnatural Selection's bridge section is in tripletsĮxogenesis: Symphony, Part 1 (Overture) is in 6/4Įxogenesis: Symphony, Part 2 (Cross-pollination)'s intro and outro are in 7/4, the first verse is in 3/4, and the middle is in 4/4?Įxogenesis: Symphony, Part 3 (Redemption) is in triplets? Or is it 6/4? Uprising has a triplet beat and 4/4 time EDIT: Apparently this is actually just called "swung"? Never heard of this beforeĬollateral Damage is a cover but is still in triplets Knights of Cydonia's final riff is in triplets (but still 4/4 time) Hoodoo sounds like 3/4, but the first half and second half sound different so it's weird Soldier's Poem is 4/4 but in triplets, I believe Micro Cuts' verses are 6/4 but part of the chord progression makes it sound like 4/4 sometimes?įeeling Good is a cover but is regardless in 6/4 I might be wrong on some of these, but I think that these are true:įalling Down is in 6/4 (but I'm not 100% sure on this) I'm very interested in which Muse songs have weird time signatures/rhythm, different from the usual 4/4.
